An oil tanker ignites in flames near the coast of Oman

A fire erupted on an oil tanker located approximately 150 nautical miles northeast of Masirah, Oman, according to the United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) center, which operates under the Royal Navy. The incident prompted an immediate evacuation of the tanker’s crew as a safety precaution.

The UKMTO report detailed the situation, stating, “UKMTO has received a report of an incident 150 NM northeast of Masirah, Oman. A tanker has experienced a fire onboard resulting in the evacuation of crew.” At this time, the exact cause of the fire remains unknown and is under investigation.

Importantly, there have been no reports indicating any environmental damage or oil spills resulting from the fire, as confirmed by UKMTO. The center has classified the event as “suspicious activity,” suggesting that further scrutiny is underway to determine whether the fire was accidental or deliberate.

In response to the incident, Omani and Indian authorities are actively collaborating to manage the situation and coordinate rescue and containment efforts.
